The majority of people in this country do not know how to read. So while the printed page is still important, we must think of other ways to reach those who do not read or have difficulty reading. We are working with solar mp3 players and are developing simple software for the digital libraries.
Solar-powered MP3 Players
We have been able to offer digital audio recordings of the New Testament Scriptures to hundreds of people through these solar players. Faith Comes by Hearing is an evangelical ministry that produces audio Scriptures in many different languages. Because of these players, many people have heard large passages of God's Word for the first time in their lives! And God's Word is powerful to change hearts.
Digital Library
We are developing a digital library that will be made available through a free WIFI connection wherever we install the device. We are using a combination of a tiny computer (called a RaspberryPi) and a wireless router. It can be installed anywhere there is a minimal power source. We are testing one of these systems at the Adventist Hospital in Bere as we continue software development. People can download tracts and books in pdf format as well as download audio Scriptures. A complete system is around $100.
